Solid Hardwood
Constructed of three or more thin sheets of wood that are laminated together to form a single plank
Most range from [1/4" - 9/16"] thick, and [2 1/4" - 7"] in width
Cross-ply construction ensures the product isn't affected by changes in moisture or temperature
Can be installed practically anywhere
Almost always come pre-finished
Comprised of a single piece of wood with tongue and groove sides that fit together when installed
Usually [3/4"] thick planks that are [2 1/4"] wide
Most come unfinished, but there are some pre-finished options
Very sensitive to moisture and temperature
Not recommended for below ground level, places that receive a lot of direct sunlight or moisture
CARE & MAINTENANCE TIPS
What should I avoid if I have hardwood flooring?
Any liquid or moisture including but not limited to: wet mops, moist cleaning supplies not made for hardwood floors, wet shoes, nearby open windows when it's raining, wet animals, etc.
Moving heavy furniture: avoid sliding anything across your floors. We recommend protecting your furniture legs at all times.
Heels, non-trimmed pet nails, and cleats can lead to: small scratches that build up over time, compromising the longevity and look of your floors.
What kind of vacuum should I be using?
Use a soft-bristle brush, broom, or felt vacuum. Keep the wheels free from dirt/abrasive material - as they might scratch your floors!
What do I do if an accident happens, and something spills?
Wipe up all spills as soon as they happen. Use a soft, microfiber, cloth to avoid scratching your floor. Excessive moisture can cause gaping, swelling, or cupping; so you want to remove it as fast as possible. If the moisture is too much to absorb quickly and you notice changes start to happen, we recommend contacting your local flooring company (like us!) to evaluate the situation.
How often should I be sweeping/vacuuming?
Sweeping and vacumming at least twice a week keeps out all abrasive material that holds a risk of scratching.
What cleaners are safe for hardwood?
DO use: PH balanced cleaners, no residue formulas, and professional grade brands like Bona (we sell our recommendations).
DO NOT use: pine soap cleaners, lemon oil, oil-based soaps, chlorine bleach, or ammonia.
What is the one thing I need to expect or remember before putting in hardwood flooring?
Hardwood is a natural product. Therefore, it will react to the environment that it is in.
